Alcohol related accidents are still a serious problem for Americans. Although the past couple years have slowly seen an improvement in the number of drunk driving related accidents, the problem has hardly gone away. A person is killed in an alcohol-related crash approximately every 45 minutes. At some point in their lifetimes, regardless of whether they drink or not, nearly one-third of Americans will be involved in a drunk driving accident. This is why drunk driving is a problem that is important to so many people. If some of these statistics come as a surprise, it is even more shocking is that these numbers are significantly lower than the statistics of 30 years ago. This is due in no small part to the increasing tougher consequences that law enforcement has put in place to deter drunks from getting behind the wheel. Yet the progress has recently slowed.
Tougher Laws Take Aim At DUI Accidents

Education is at the core of dealing with DUI problems for any community. Statistically, educated indivuduals and communities are less likely to drive drunk. That is not to say that educated people do not get DUI’s. It is simply saying that they are LESS likely to drive drunk than non educated populations. Direct alcohol related education is currently minimal in most communities and therefore ignorance on the subject remains at an all time high unless of course you get a DUI conviction. It is a shame that the only alcohol abuse and drunk driving education that people get is after they have already been convicted of driving under the influence and suffered drunk driving penalties including fines, jails time, attorneys fees and even in some cases death.
